Arriving in Ecuador
The main international airport is Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) in Quito. It sits about 45 minutes from the city center (allow up to 1.5 hours in traffic).
Most travelers (US, EU, UK, Canada, Australia) can enter Ecuador for up to 90 days without a visa. Always double-check current requirements before traveling.
Getting from the airport
Use official airport taxis or Uber. Avoid unsolicited rides. We can also coordinate trusted drivers if needed.
Where to stay in Quito
We recommend staying in Tumbaco/Cumbayá or near Mitad del Mundo for easier logistics on departure day.
- Tumbaco/Cumbayá: quiet, close to departure point
- Central Quito: more restaurants, more traffic
Before your retreat: explore Quito
Quito’s historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and worth exploring.
- Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús
- La Ronda
- Mitad del Mundo
- TelefériQo (views over the Andes)
After the retreat: where to go
Ecuador is small, making it easy to explore different ecosystems.
- Mindo: cloudforest, birds, waterfalls
- Galápagos: world-famous wildlife
- Cuenca: colonial architecture
- Baños: waterfalls & adventure
- Amazon: rainforest immersion
Health & practical notes
- Quito altitude: 2,850m — allow time to acclimatize
- Drink water, avoid alcohol first 1–2 days
- Travel insurance recommended
- Currency: USD
After your retreat
We recommend staying one extra night in Quito before flying. The transition from forest to airport can be intense — giving yourself time to rest makes a big difference.
